Meet Alyssa Harner
Birth Doula
Hi, I’m Alyssa.
I am a wife and mama of two. Birth work was never something foreign to me, my own mom was a childbirth educator, and did labor coaching when I was just a wee babe myself. While she outgrew that phase of her life as her kids got older, once her baby (me) was expecting my first child she picked up right where she’d left off.
I know, I know. You’re probably thinking what’s this have to do with what you have to offer me? While expecting my first, I experienced some complications that I didn’t know how to navigate. My plan for a beautiful Birth Center delivery came crashing to a halt and the one with a level head to help me navigate the health complications and changes in my birth plan was my mom. I’m so grateful that she was educated and able to give me the resources, knowledge, and confidence to make decisions. I had my son in the hospital 3 weeks early, but it was still a beautiful birth. I thank God for his peace in the delivery room, and for my moms advocacy and guidance that kept me from an emergency cesarean. The birth of my second child was my ‘redemptive’ birth. From the moment I found out I was expecting her I prayed to have peace and redemption through this birth. I felt an overwhelming peace from God that everything would be ok, and it was.
In comes birth work, the light tug at my heart started while sitting in the waiting room halfway through my first pregnancy but I resisted. A little stronger with my second, I remember thinking ‘this could be me’ but not understanding quite where I would belong. One day almost a year after having my daughter I chatted with my mom, half joking about becoming a doula. It was as if I was feeling her out to see how she would respond, expecting her to tell me no. Except she didn’t. “yeah, you could” was her response. All in Gods perfect timing, there was an upcoming training within a month and the rest is history.
